Default relocating a/c compressor

this concerns my 1982 pontiac t/a which has the sb chevy "corporate" motor. the compressor is on the driver side of the motor and the alternator is on the passenger side. to clean up and simplify under the hood i would like to switch them so i can use shorter hoses for the a/c. any ideas? thanks in advance.
