Default Pontiac Aztec speedo keeps jumping

Hello,
I'm new here, i have have a 2001 pontiac Aztek and my speedo keeps jumping around while im driving, can someone please tell me if its the VSS and if so where on the transmission abouts its located on this piticular vehicle if thats what it is.... any help would be appreciated

if its your vss, the car wouldnt shift right, is that the only thing its doing? havent worked on an aztek but i would guess down toward the pass side on the diff

Yeah its only the speedo thats jumping up and down when driving and it'* shifting ok....what do you think it is? Thanks

if nothing else is going on with your car it seems likely that the ip itself is bad, the vss signal goes to the pcm and is used for several things. then the computer talks to the ip via a serial bus.

Damn!!! that sucks....I would have to replace the IPC? I guess i would have to live with the erratic speedo...Thanks for your help JWFirebird

if every thing else is working on it then probably. ive heard of people being able to replace the stepper motors but i dont have any experience with that.

it was the speed sensor on my wheel if i remember correctly. I bought a new one, but didn't put it on. it was just loose. i think it was on the passenger wheel by the hub. its been a few months now and no problems
