Hi,
I have an 1974 Pontiac Grand Prix that was imported to Sweden in 1976. It has been sparely used and I have only been driving it for summer. A few days ago I replaced the electrical contact for the trailer. Everything seem to work afterwards and I continued to install a windshield washer kit. Suddenly everything shopped working, note the fornt headlights glow. Not even the backlights or parking lights has power. The car is completely dead and noting happens when I turn the key.

Is there anybody here that know the difference between the headlights and the rest of the electrical system? Surely it must be 2 different powers supply when only the headlamps wrk. Can it be a fusible link that has blown? '

I tried to measure and there is power in at least 2 or 3 pins in the bulkhead connector from the motor compartment to the driving compartment.

sounds like a fusible link, gm likes to hide them. check along the wires to the fuses that dont have power

There'* a quite round red cable that goes from the battery to the trunk compartment. I'm not shore if it'* used by the electrical trailer connector at the rear. This link has an ordinary fuse in it. When I removed the fuse, the car started working. Why? I can't understand that. I have to measure runt that connector to se whats wrong.

The car was used as a summer car from -76 to -83. Then it stood in a garage until i bought it the summer 2000. I use it only for shorter trips in the summer so it'* in really good shape, but the lacquer has some flaws.

sounds like that is something someone beside the factory put on and its shorting to chassis somewhere. alot of times people leave too much wire stripped back when they put the trailer connector together and they touch or water gets in and that shorts the power out
