My 97 grand am starts going in drive but the tranny won't shift into next gears until I reach 3000 rpm.I was told to replace the transaxle vacuum modulator which I did but that didn't solve the problem.Can anyone please help?

Have you had the car scanned for codes? Some of the transmission codes wont trip a light. Have you checked your fluid level? How about the color of the fluid? How many miles on the trans and when was the filter last changed?

Thank you for your reply.The tranny filter and fluid have been replaced.As far as the codes go I only found one,it was code 122 which is throttle position sensor I was told.Will replacing this unit fix my problem?

replacing the throttle positioning sensor fixed the problem.

Good glad its fixed sounded about right makes sense if the tps is bad its off then your shift points change from an incorrect reading
