Default 99 Bonneville SE Cannot turn A/C compressor pulley by hand

When I turn the ignition, the engine tries to turn over but won't. Everything has power. No security issue. A/C compressor will not kick on and cannot turn A/C compressor pulley by hand. Would that prevent the engine from starting? If so, do I need to replace the pulley or whole compressor? Any advice would be helpful.

Undo the belt tensioner and let the serpentine belt slide off. Then attempt to start it.

If the compressor clutch will not rotate the bearing seized. This can keep the engine from starting.

What Mike said above ^^^^^^

Whether it is the compressor pulley bearing or the whole compressor, if the pulley won't turn the starter probably won't be able to overcome it.

If you do not wish to spend the money on a new compressor you may be able to get a shorter serp belt and bypass the AC. If you like I will see if it'* doable and the correct belt you would need.

Me thinks she would have to get the A/C bypass pulley. I don't think a shorter belt will work.

Yeah, we looked into this for another thread a few months ago. It needs to be the bypass pulley.

I kind of figured it did and I just looked at the SI and it does need a bypass pulley to work.
