98 Bonneville hi beams
It was a real battle, but after taking a day off from it, dug back in tonight, and finally got that tiny snap ring off! And I fished out the broken spring, from the old armature. Also, the dimmer switch arrived. After taking the lower dash apart, I found the rod that actuates that switch, loose in the column! I think someone tried to steal the car at some point, as the plastic covers were broken/loose on the left side, and the wires from the ts stalk are hanging out a bit. I got one side of the holder for the connector off, where the ts loom plugs in. Was trying to get the other side, right tight to the wiring harness, but the ol' body said enough trying to contort under there for the day!
Update: Had the day off work today, so I went down to Charlotte, to Pull a Part. They had a '97 Park Ave., but, starting to roll through the rows, spotted a '94 Regency 98, of all things! Got everything apart easily. So, there'* a flat plastic plate that clips to the column, and another small plastic piece, with a rounded edge, to push on the metal rod, that pushes the hi beam switch. Question, is the tilt activation lever threaded? It does go through the flat plate, ended up snapping off the one on the Olds. Amazingly, the car also had an intact passenger side mirror, which I also grabbed. I gave up trying to find one, as they tend to snap them off when loading the cars. I'd bought a new aftermarket one from amazon for around $30, and it worked for maybe a week. Then the glass became loose, ended up taping it to the housing, of course it fell off eventually. And my son knocked the rest of it off somewhere. But at least I found one finally! Bonus, there was a '99 Tahoe a couple cars over, and it still had the spare, 16" version of a rally wheel, with an unused BFG Long Trail tire! I just picked up a set of 4 off facebook marketplace, for either my Jeep, or my '70 Suburban.
