Default 97 Bonne Courtesy lights just came on

I was driving my 97 NA Bonne 197K miles yesterday and all of sudden the courtesy lights just came on. They will go off when you turn off the vehicle and the twilight sentinel is satisfied.

Need some help.

Thanks,

John

I forget what the switch is like, but i am guessing its not loose or anything? Did you try to pull the fuse on the circuit to make sure its not shorted or crossed onto another somehow?

At least they turn off when you turn of the car....

What do you mean by courtesy lights? Interior lights or exterior/headlights?

If headlights, if you turn off the twilight sentinel, do they go out? Were you under a bridge or something?

Good question. I thought you meant interior/dome light. If outside, my Bonn. running lights can come on even behind a building in the afternoon. Did this happen more than once?

I am talking about the dome lights and the lights that are in the door panels. All inside the vehicle. These would typically be off while you are driving down the road. They are on, but they are dim compared to normal. I haven't checked the fuse, but that will be next. It appears to be a back feed of some sort just not sure from where.

these lights are turned on by ground, so i would look at the wires for a short to the body on one of the wires.

I was going to suggest you look at the plunger switches in the door jams, but your comment that the lights are dim are a strong indication that Justin is correct in your having a wire shorting out to ground. The short is not providing a very postive connection, which is causing the lights to be dim. Do the lights get brighter when you open the doors?
