Default 2001 Aztek Blower Control ? Wiring Issue?

I have a 2001 Aztek base model with single climate zone heating. I just purchased this vehicle. The guy said the heat will run on 5 but pops fuses if you move the switch. It was not working at all when I got it, so I checked and changed fuses. I put a brand new resistor in and we jumped the blower motor and it'* running fine. Fuses are not popping but only 5 works. I am able to turn it to off without problem. Do I need to replace the controls? Is this the problem? I have tried to get my hands on one, but alas, they are all melted, broken, missing from junk yard teks and the local dealer wants $425+ Would the controls from a Montana work? I am wondering if it could be a wiring issue. The light on the shifter and behind the "cold/hot" **** do not light up and the adapter plug hole at the top of the center console in the rear does not work, but the bottom one does.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

the blower relay changes the power from "ign3" on step 5 to "blwr" fuse through the controls so if that turns on and off then the relay could be not making the connection for the steps from the resistor. you will have to check it with a meter. control module must be getting power because 5 works, so you could check your inputs to the resistor and back to the control if you arent getting anything out it must be bad.

Fuses blow for one reason, too much current being drawn.

If I am reading your post correctly, the blower works at the highest speed, which may indicate that the blower and wiring may be ok, you may want to check to see if a short to ground occurs when moving the switch. Does the back of the switch somehow get in contact with ground when the **** is turned?
