Hi all,
I just purchased a beautiful 1960 Pontiac Ventura Vista with the original V8 389 6.4L engine. It was garaged for over 30 years, with an almost mint body and interior. I am in the process of restoring a few components of the engine that haven't weathered as well.
The question I have is about the generator.
I'm looking into buying a new one but am having a hard time finding the original generator specs.
The car has AC, and I understand that models with AC may have had generators with a higher AMP output
Anybody have info about these old generators?
It would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!
.
Welcome to the Forum Chadney. Nice time capsule!
That Ventura look like it is in amazing shape!
I've contacted a Member that may have the info re the Generator so hopefully he chimes in shortly....
Sorry guys but the old generators are not part of my experiences. I wish I could be more help for you. I'm not sure but I believe that once they went to alternators, the same amp alt was used regardless. But even that is speculative. But the generators were different enough that they may have required more amperage to cover the additional load??? Just not sure.

That'* a beauty!
After sitting so long it may have dried out bearings or somesuch but the electronics are usually good. Does the current generator have any problems?
Thank you CathedralClub. It doesn't seem to be charging the battery as well as it should. If I can't find the right replacement I'll see about getting the existing one rebuilt.
I love the '60. I have been building a '63 Catalina Gasser although I originally intended to make the build on a '60 Cat. But the '63 came up before I could find a good '60 candidate so I went with the '63. By the way, my whole engine build is based on a 1960 389 block. Although the block is the only pure Pontiac part, the old blocks are so solid and thick they are a great starting point for a high powered build. '61 started the thinner casting and a little weaker blocks. Good luck with the '60.
That'* next on my to-do list. Still, it would be helpful to know what kind of amperage this model was supposed to put out, so I know how close or off it is

Looks like yours is supposed to have a 12V 35A unit.
