Its always better to play it safe then sorry with tints, esp if you catch a cop on a bad day when he wants to screw over everyone. Don't give them grounds to do anything, keep it legal, no chance of any trouble

Speaking of tinting in MN where can I get it done for a reasonable price? I am wanting to get mine tinted (I would like a slight chrome to it -they say it'* illegal in MN but I see cars with it all over and the cops aren't bothering them).
I checked in St. Cloud last week (knowing they'd be spendy) and they quoted me $300 to do just the side windows. I thought that was insane since I saw a post a while back where people were saying that anything over $150 was insane and that included the back windshield.
Anyhow, then when we were talking about the tint percentage I asked about chemically tinting over 50% legally and the guy just flat out shut his mouth and walked away and said soming I'd rather not mention here.
Thanks in advance,
Stylez

i used gjerdes solar shield in savage. also heard z-barts (spelling??)
i paid $250 total for all 9 windows at 35% tint

here a little thing i just read

Window Tinting - Minnesota Law forbids the use of window tinting on the windshield of any vehicle (unless it was part of the manufacturing process). Minnesota Law requires window tinting to allow at least 47% light transmittance on side or rear windows of passenger vehicles. Pick-up trucks and vans can have a higher amount of tinting on the windows to the rear of the driver’* seat. Materials used for tinting may not have a reflection rate of more than 23%. Just because a legitimate company installed the tinting material doesn’t mean the material complies with the law. Make sure you check the law before making a purchase.

I think you have it right. The problem for cops most of the time is that a routine stop can turn deadly in the blink of an eye, so the approach to the vehicle is a tense experience anyway. If you add anythig that prevents the officer from seeing you it is going to put him/her seriously on edge. The last thing you want when trying to avoid a ticket is something that makes the officer tense or even consider you suspicious

Personally, I'd go for a light tint all around (I've always thought that two different shades is a little strange looking, but to each his/her own).

In case anyone is wondering, Ohio Law is 50%. I got pulled over twice in my 96 GA GT with 15% tint, both times by Highway Patrol. I never had a problem with city cops (Columbus) but change the tint anyway to 35%. I traded the car in not too much later for my 97 GTP so I never really got a chance to see if the OHP would stop me for it.

I can't believe you get away with that in Mass...they're usually sticklers down there.

5% is limo tint, and you can't see through it. If you use your car for business purposes in MN you can have 5% legally installed.
