Me and Bill have been researching this for some time now and we believe we found the biggest, badest, and most flowing filter out there on the market. Tis the K&N X-Stream part number RX-4750. This sucker is huge....
Bill had better luck installing the filter with the ADTR intake pipe because my ebay special is longer, the reducer is odd, and my car is evil. I had to relocate my "Hood Ajar" sensor the most retarded way ever. The pics explain all:
No no, that sensor is in the darn way!

Bolt can't even be tightened, but hey it won't move because I got the sensor to stay in while forcing it into a small cramped area.

P.*. Yes I know my engine is dirty as all hell, but I live on a farm so trying to constantly clean it is pointless.

Well, this started out as a search for a filter that would 'fit perfectly'. I thought about this alot, then decided to do something. We're restricted in width by the WS washer reservoir and the upper Rad hose, but not restricted in height. This is a brand new filter for K&N, and the dimensions sounded perfect.
It'* an oval at the base, 8" high by 6" wide. The 6" goes between the hose and reservior, the 8" goes from the hood to the PMV. It'* also 6" long, and tapers to a 6" round with the velocity stack.
The pleats are deeper than most 'knock-off' filters, so the end result is this sucker has about twice the filter surface area as the old cone you see in my pics, and 3 times a replacment K&N for the stock airbox. Plus it has the added benefits of the velocity stack.

The ADTR is rigid enough to support it. I've got it vertical, but that'* what I expected. We're narrower behind the headlight than deep, if you know what I mean. I figured it would fill the space horizontally between the upper rad hose and the headlight washer tank, but still extend down deep towards the PMV.
Notice how deep the pleats are? They're twice as deep as the old cone filter, and the filter is larger to begin with. I'm thinking twice the surface area. We'll be alot less affected by a dirty filter this way.
I think it'll be alot easier to build a heatshield, too. We can attach it directly to the back of the filter. Funny thing....does yours have about a 3/8" hole in the back? I don't get the purpose of that, and it'll let particles in. I'm calling K&N tomorrow about that. For now, I have a plastic 3/8 plug in the hole. Eventually, I'll use that hole for a mounting location for the heatshield. This hole might be for the IAT????

I'm going to lower my intake down 1/4" from where it is in that pic, so I'm going to attach some 1/8" neoprene to the ADTR where it passes by the compressor. It'* in the 'rub' zone.
When you're ready to post, go for it. Include my pics, or I can upload them and post them myself. I just need to reinstall my digicam software.

Filter was about 50 bucks I think....we had to wait for a production run to get them, so it'* been a little while since we ordered 
The heat shield will be a one-piece design, 90° bend. Along the back face of the filter, then turn towards the headlight in between the filter and the radiator. I'll be able to suck air only from the fender, headlight, and down below the PMV. Got it in my head, getting it on paper. Might build it this weekend. My old prototype is in the trash already!
