That'* the Evap recovery canister. It collects fuel fumes, then purges them back to the gas tank after they condense.

Also referred to as the Charcoal canister.

In the Series 2 engines it must be somewhere else, because when I put my intake on it did not get in the way.

Our cars demand laminar airflow. I have some ducting in my bumper to the bottom opening like this though.

That'* way to turbulent for your car. You'd likely lose performance.
