Default Tranny Cooler

I am intrested in investing in another tranny cooler. Now is there anything I need to know about my car before purchasing one?? Any sizes or dimensions? Are there any recommended types? Any info at all on the tranny coolers would be helpful. Thanks

You have an SSE, so I'm assuming you already have one like I did. Just get another one the same size or slightly smaller, and mount it to the front of the stock cooler. Go with black, or use hi-temp paint on it. An aluminum cooler will look like **** through the grille. The tranny line you need to connect it to is the one that enters the top of the radiator from the tranny. I'd have to check, but I think I have mine going through the new cooler first, then the stock cooler. The instructions that come with your cooler should tell you how to do this. Don't worry about GVWR ratings for the cooler.

Having a 94SE, am I to assume that I don't have a tranny cooler stock, what to look for? I would like to invest in one, as I have already added the suggested 180 thermo. Can it wait til spring? Feedback is appreciated.

All automatic transmission equipped cars have tranny coolers, however, the stock tranny cooler is integrated into your radiator. A supplemental transmission cooler is smaller radiator-like devise that is typically mounted in front of your radiator. On the Bonnevilles that have an extra cooler, it is mounted on the passenger side of the vehicle right behind the lift-up grill (the grill that is attached to the hood). I have a SC'd SE, so my car came with one. I know that the SSE and SSEi came with them, but I can not vouch for the SE with the NA engine. The cooler is typically 12"X6" (roughly) and is painted black to match the radiator. If you live in a cooler climate, you may get away with the stock cooler until spring, however, I would suggest that you drive responsibly until such a time that you can get the cooler installed. These cars were designed to function adequately with the stock cooler, but the engineers were designing these cars as family cars, not racers. The SE is a great car that, in my humble opinion, was short changed when it came to the transmission.

Good luck with your mod. It should be a pretty simple and straight forward proceedure.
