Thermostat ???

Something I've always wondered about was the temperature rating on a thremo. For example 180 degrees, would this be the temp the thermo cracks at or the temp when its fully open.

I believe thats when it'* suppose to start open. not fully open

It can be both since it is trying to maintain the temperature of its rating. So, on a car that is warming up, it will start to open. However, since it is trying to maintain that temperature, it will do what it has to including going to full open. Once ijt goes wide open, it has done all it can do and if the temperature keeps climbing, then there is a problem with the cooling system not transfering enough heat to the incoming air.
