Default A Teaser

Alright. Well, i tried to wait at least till i got all my parts but i couldn't.
I am going to be doing some pretty big mods within the next month and I just wanted to see what you guys think.
I was originally going to just install the ZZP GT Stage 1 CAM with thier install kit but I saw a set of heads on eBay w/ a bid of 20 bucks.
I won the bid with 25 bucks but it didn't meet the reserve. I offered the guy 50 bucks and a pick up and he went for it. I showed up at his house and he had the whole rest of the engine in pieces. The egine soposidly had 75,000 on it and it came out of a 97 bonnie. Well to make that story short i picked up the lower intake with an extra upper intake gasket for 20 more bucks. they also gave me ignition coils, a flywheel,a stock cam, timing chain, and a bunck of misc stuff for free. GOOD DEAL
So now along with the cam install i'm gonna port match the upper intake with the lower, and port and polish the heads.
So far I bought:
The cam w/ install kit, stainless intake valves, a standard abrasives kit, felpro head gaskets, exaust manifold gaskets, head bolts, and i still have to get some exaust manifold studs.
I'm also going to have my heads decked 30 over so it should raise the compression to 9.6:1. (every .015" = 0.1:1)
I'm hoping that i won't have any issues with the stock pushrods b/c they will be giving me additional valve lift.
The only thing that arrived in the mail so far is the standard abrasives kit. It came with the directions that are on thier website which is pretty cool. I'm waiting on the cam install kit so i'll have the lower intake gasket to port match the intake w/ the heads.

Hopefully I should have everything installed within the next month. I'll try and take as many pics as possible.

So what do you guys think?

sounds like you have alot of work to do! I suppose you will have everything apart anyways to do the cam. ARe you sure that raising the compression wont screw anything up (valves hitting) or something like that?

Nice setup you got started there.
I would also add #105lb springs and oil restricted push rods to your head upgrade, this will improve your mid to high rpm range by minimizing valve float.

The higher compression will require higher octane to help with pinging and you will need a custom pcm to help with idle and disable the p300 cam alarm.

Thanks.

I definatley plan on getting the oil restricted pushrods and possibly 90lb,105,or LS6 springs. but i'm out of money. lol. we'll see what happens.

Plus i'm sh1tty OBD 1 so no nice intense PCM for me. :(
But I was just thinking about just unhooking the front knock sensor??? will this help???

you might want that, you never know with the increased compression whether you will get knock, which would you rather have, a few degrees of timing pulled or for your engine to throw a rod?

This is true, i'll just create a toggle switch then.

The pcm will know the cct for the knock sensor is un plugged and throw a code, its ok for short runs (ie drag track) but not long term driving.

You may want to look into a Jet performance chip, I belive that they are available for series 1?
