It'll sound raspy, burbly, farty, and just plain nasty. And you'll lose low-end torque, which is what your engine was designed for.

If you want a good sounding and performance oriented exhaust on budget, get a high flow cat and a Magnaflow or Flowmater muffler.

Don't mess around with the stock design, its meant to optimize performance and torque.

Exactly. The answer for sound and performance is NOT straight piping. That'* old-school muscle car crap. This is a modern computer-tuned engine.

Old School Muscle-car crap???? WTF i`ve never done straight pipes in my:" old shool days ".....even then we went for a Tuned exhaust system....like the older camaro`* with the " factory " dimpled exhaust pipes....we ran Redline mufflers whiich at that time where topline mufflers......but like Will said do not use straight pipes at all more hp/tqr with mifflers and proper pipe sizing

nothing because no matter what you do, straight pipes will sound horrible on that car, besides, a Bonneville is a classy car, why would you want it to sound like that. :? I agree, stick with the setup others are going with, just replace the mufflers, and maybe get a high flow cat. and by 'resevoirs" I assume you're talking about resonators. Those are there to get rid of the raspy, poppy exhaust notes, and to eliminate engine drone at steady speeds.

Ok, this is a very similiar question, what if i got rid of the muffler and had a straight pipe press bent made up from the resonator on back. So the only thing taken out of the exhaust would be the stock muffler and stock pipe. Since a resonator is like a glass pack wouldnt it sound alright?
