If you dont go smaller than a 3.5'' pully you should be relatively coo keeping it stock. But to get the best performance i'd suggest a CAI, some exhaust upgrades, hi flo cat and mufflers etc. and then maybe even a 180 degree thermostat just to keep things cool unders the increased horse power. Contact Purplehaizer, he'* pretty familiar with the whole pully thing and hes runnin a 2000 SSEi so he'* pretty familiar with the layout of your ride.

3.4" will work on some cars. But unless your scanning for KR I don't suggest it. I've scanned several GPs running this size and see a lot of KR. One of them I believed chipped a piston. To add another ~10hp due to boost and loose 3* or 4* of timing, ~ 12 to 16 hp makes no sense.

Yeah below 3.5 you run into the kr issues that danthurs was speaking of and to my understanding more supporting mods are needed to compensate for the added Horsepower as well as PCM upgrades and tuning. It can get complicated quick unless ur just hell bent and determined to run a 3.4' pully. Then you don't care what you have to do to make it happen.LOL

KR is Knock Retard or predetonation. This is destroy your engine in short order. This comes from low octane, damage to the engine, to much boost, bad tune, etc. The smallest pulley you want to run is a 3.5" unless you really know what your doing and scanning for KR. My engine is fairly heavily modded and I'm running a 3.1" The smallest pulley I have seen is a 2.5" and it will take a lot of effort to get down to that point.
