Blueeyes is on one right track. Yup, there are a few boltup options out there, but you have to remember you'll still be dealing with halfshaft lengths, and the ever-present pcm problem.

What you're talking about could be the most cost-effective option, but it'* not for the faint of heart.

My take on the big picture: The 4T60E and 4T60E-HD aren't bad trannys at all. Their failure lies in the fact that there'* not a whole lot of aftermarket support for them. Most of that support centers around the 65 series because of the Grand Prix. With that in mind, if a person wanted a beefier trans the budget way, I'd be tempted to switch to the 4T65E-HD, and build up the internals with the standard offerings of stronger parts. It would be much easier to get a Series1 PCM to talk to a 4T65 than it would be to teach a PCM that the automatic is gone now.

Ok obviously Will has been sleeping. The ASG 4t60-e is easily as strong as the 4t65-e and stronger in a stock format. They rebuilt the chain for that reason. The upfront cost is higher than most but Domestic Performance doesn’t like to deceive like many of the other companies. Other companies charge a core charge and then when they receive your core they reduce its value (usually to 1/4 of its value) due to the fact it has been used. This is not unfair but you are usually not told this until later when its too late. The only Performance Transaxle with a real warranty is the ASG 4t60-e coming with a 3 year 36000 mile warranty. Other companies have to offer a 90-day warranty.

The final cost for a top built transaxles is going to be 3800- 4000.00 regardless. I currently offer Limited slips, performance shift modulators, torque converters, the works. I can also hook you up with a stick built to take on 450.hp.

None of these transaxle stick or even RWD conversions are hard but they can be expensive to have done correctly. I have a funny feeling we will have some hard knock cases of learning with trial and error in the next little while. I screen calls on a regular bases for our tranny tech and if you need help I am always glad to help. I am not going to give all our secrets but I will help as much as I can.

I think you're right, Ty. Someone'* gonna do this real soon. There'* been more talk than ever on it.

My budget-concious mind was looking at cheaper alternatives.....sub $3k, but alot of sweat on my part. Not really sure which way I'm gonna go when the time comes. I have to consider how much my sweat is worth, and whether an extra 1k is worth the lack of a headache!

You're gonna turn me into a Turtle. Turtles are SLOW.

It'll probably be next year now. The flush really did the trick, but probably only bought me some time. I'll be coming to you for options when it gets nasty again! I don't want to do this twice, so it'll get done right the FIRST time.

Ok here are the biggest issues for the 4t60-e

Fluid temp, Fluid movement, shift points, torque converter.

Basically for longevity you will find the blueprinting of the unit has the greatest effect. Next comes the shift firmness.

For performance there is a need for better plates and harder better-balanced parts.
For sever use bearings are replaced with harder units with all moving parts specially coated.

The limited slip and torque converter are important but the focus only on them tends to put the cart before the horse.

The plates being produced for the 900hp GM Sunfire will do the trick and the rest of the performance options are already available.

You will see a reliable 1000hp 4t60-e HD in the future and it will come in a "kit". The plates were the only things stopping the builders. Be careful though because the kit is only as good as the builder.

For the average person who wants a more reliable unit but not looking to go for more than 300hp then a blueprinted 4t60-e HD with the beefier torque converter can do well and is a bit cheaper. Limited slips for 300hp use are 500.00 alone. The higher the hp the more money we have to spend so we have to charge more.
