It would not. You are giving up your best acceleration gear. Heck, If I had a motor that could be wound up to a gazillion RPM, I'd run first gear the entire quarter!

I'm an old school guy most of the time...maybe even a bit of a dinosour...but there are some problems that have very firmly worked out solutions, tested, re-tested, and tested some more.

If you are putting down enough power to spin the tires on a drag strip, then the goal isn't to limit the power output by dumping the gear ratio. May I suggest the following solution.......

it would be good on a very high horsepower light car or dragster that y the powerglide 2 speed transmission is so popular but for a steet car its the opposite you need the lowest gear my 2 cents and old drag experience

Curt, your M/T'* have the same nasty 'dirty' paint in the letters mine did. I don't think mine were ever in the kitchen, but they were in the shower for awhile. And in the living room.

2nd gear start is for severe icy/snowy weather only. Worst thing for performance you can do.

No idea for a 4T80, but I've had the second gear start in my car before, it'* just a PCM programming function. If the gear selector was in the 2 position the car would start in second gear, very interesting with a stall torque!

Cheers,

The switches Pat is referring to are quite large. I kinda wonder if they don't include the relays/circuitry built into them.

Not really likely. The common way of doing this is to simply ground a pin at the PCM, or introduce a resistance across two pins for the signal to change modes.
