Hmm...I never heard of this on an automatic transmission, or a button to select it. There'* been a "feature" called "CAGS" on the manual transmission that locked out a gear under certain VSS vs. RPM vs. Traction Control conditions...though the goal of most people was to remove that particular feature for drag racing purposes.

It was done via solenoids in the transmission that blocked the shifter forks...more or less forcing you to skip a gear, which is why is is usually refered to as "skip-shift"

2nd gear start for bad weather, complete with schematic and part numbers.

I've never tried this as I have no application, the circuit design is good however.

Ick! What a complete waste. You're gonna intentionally make the car start off the line like a real dog? I'm glad the '94 V6 Camaro didn't come with that. Granted, most of the V6 F-Bodies came with 3 series gears in the axle and were a bit on the light side in back, but to actually design a circuit to make the car perform worse? What were they thinking. ( I smell some insurance lobbyist somewhere in this...)

Btw, you have the perfect traction control device built in already..it'* connected to your body just below the right ankle, and your shoe is convieniently wrapped around it.

As far as a drag racing aid...hmmm...if you are having traction problems that bad off the line, time to address the real problem..the contact patch between the tire and the drag strip.
