Default rice pipe on... too much air?

I put the autozone universal pipe on. I used a generic rice filter from advance auto parts. I notice that when I accelerate hard the engine (gasps?) real herkey jerkey like. I does pick up after a while. What is the problem? anyone?

Rodney

Too little air, and you need time for the PCM to adjust.

Throw the fake filter away (DrJay'* held WATER it was so restrictive), get a real performance cone, and give it a couple days to learn.

rodney i have a question, when you stomp on the petal, and you hear the sc start to wine, is it a steady, uninnerupted wine or does it sound like it staggers? I noticed a while back that mine would do that, where it almost sounds like its under water or something. It was because the air compressor is loose and its vibrating, anc because ur cone might rest up against it, it causes it to do the same thing. IM not sure if this affects performance, but you might want to check it out

Describe your filter in more detail than your sig shows, and tell us exactly what you did to the MAF screen. Hell, a picture of the setup would be good, too.

i took off the old filter, cut 2 inches off the pipe to fit, coupler'ed the pipe on, and put the filter on, the hose clamps them all together. i took the maf screen out completley but didnt like the performance after a week or tow so i put it back on but drilled two little 1/3 inch holes in it for a little extra flow. that help?

Smooth intake pipe? Brand of filter?

And drilling holes in a MAF screen would have a similar effect to not running one. In fact, it'* even possible that it made it worse.

You need GOOD laminar flow through a textbook intake in order to remove or modify the screen.

If you filter is a cheap knockoff, take it off the car, and fill it with water. If it holds water, ditch it for a better filter. Consider replacing your MAF screen, or improving the flow of the intake to be able to take it out completely.

It sounds like it staggers. It seems that lately my SC is louder than usual.
