Talking Is it possible for 99' SII 3.8 Swap for 07' LS4 5.3?

Finally back!!! Been mia....But Im here and wanna get some opinions and thoughts from you guys...got a project in mind I think can work out just fine.....So I have 95 Pontiac Bonneville with a Series II 3.8 which came out of a 99 Grand Prix.....so I was in the junkyard the other day and saw something that I didn't know came in front wheel GMs.....The 5.3L LS4...which was in a monte carlo...So I instantly thought can I swap this out and make a monster?!! First l looked at the sub-frame of the monte which seemed to be aluminum because I was thinking of more torque and twisting of the frame in my bonneville...but the sub-frame in the bonneville is more metal than the monte....i know the wire harness and em are a plus...anyone know of this being done or have any suggestions?

doesnt sound that bad if you are good with fabrication. for motor or cradle mounts. i would see if i could get the whole car, there is alot on the newer vehicle that is different and you may have to go through the service manuals on both to get gauges to work and different security, you would need to have that programed out. you would likely have to use the trans and possibly make some different axles. the petal is drive by wire so you would have to get all that. not simple but not impossible.

With money and a welder, just about anything is possible.

I don't know what your state inspection laws are, but you might/will have problems with a swap of this magnitude. And as Jason as mentioned. Your going from 2007 chassis to a 95 chassis. Electrical systems are far different and the 07 systems have modules that talk to each other via a data bus/or network unlike the 95 system.

I've seen many people including myself do a L36/L67 swap in a Bonneville. But I don't think I've heard/seen of anyone do anything with a V8. Granted, the GXP'* came with the ***** V8'*, but they are a different breed of animal.

I think it would be probably best to just grab the whole sub-frame/engine/trans assembly and just find a way to make it bolt to the bottom of the Bonneville.

forgot about emissions inspections. here in ny 95 and before they dont plug it in or check tailpipe. they just do a general check, you would need the cel off and the cats and stuff.

Thanks for chiming in!! I'm located in Illinois and we don't have to take an emissions for 95 and under...i was online late late last night and only came across a 03 Impala that says he'd done it but can't tell if the video is real....I know one thing about the DOD...so yea I was figuring engine. Trans. Cradle...axles...and dashboard possibly....its just a thought right now just cause guys are taking chevy caprice and impalas and putting Ls7s in them and Ls1s in them. Why not put a Ls4 In a 95 Bonneville....it'* heavy than the grand prix and Montes that it comes in....sure it'* more than enough room under the hood!! Would be real nice!

What? The older Caprice'* and Impala'* that are already RWD? They are already setup for V8'* to begin with. That'* why its easier. Your trying to stuff a modern V8 into a car that'* NOT setup for modern technology engines. Unless you don't want clusters to work or are willing to spend the $$$ for a custom cluster.

I have never heard of anyone doing this swap, so you are essentially venturing in to uncharted territory, and on your own. The crowd favorite is the SC swap however, which has been known to pull 12'* on reliable daily driver duty, even less depending on how brave you are.

I am concerned about issue, one that is inherent to the LS4, the transmissions. Transmission failure is usually due around the 75k mark on a good day from what I understand, and if you are going to do a swap, you will seriously want to investigate and address this.

Also always remember that it'* FWD, and FWD rarely does big power well.
