Sorry for the delay. I took the time to clean up the face to give better contrast.

Notice how neat, clean, and straight they are? Notice how small the inside corner radius is? You want to match that but NOT GO OVER.

Slightly smaller in width and height is better than slightly over by a LONG shot. You need to match the SHAPE. You're losing tons of flow with the uneven corners.

Wow... now I see how porting helps so much. Why didn't GM include that in their original design? But that'* also bad news... because at my injector boss', it was already at about .950 on average before even touching it with the blade. Wonder why that is...

My Series 1 L67 ports, and the Series 2 L67 as well are much better matched. But they were built for performance. The L27 and L36 were built for mass production at a lower cost.

But SO much room for potential.

Let me ask you this. I was told you can port the heads as well... is that an intricate process, or something I could trust myself to do, and would this LIM fit after I got a set of heads and ported them? Because if that'* the case... I'm just going to replace LIM gaskets/UIM for now. Later on, I could do this LIM porting, along with porting the heads, and some valvetrain stuff as well. This car is paid off now, so I can consider like a $500 beater. But the heads are still tempting after just now finding jr'* run after porting his LIM. That kind of got my heart rate up lol.

P.*. I kind of forgot I already have an LIM on my car duuhhh. I could just port that once I get everything ripped apart.

EDITED for correcting my grammar

Hey Will: Manufacture plexiglas 3 port template including bolt holes to properly line up, sell to Bonneville nuts, make millions, eliminate angst among modders!!

I recall your pledxiglas CAI heatshild you made some time ago so I know you are pretty good with plexiglas...(among other things).

I ported my own heads. And I'm probably (not sure) the only member on this Forum with self-ported heads. I did it because I had experience in porting previously, and knew the port shapes (investigated) I was after.

Porting heads is not intricate. It'* SPOOKY. Don't even think about it until you have about 5 years experience on aluminum and cast iron porting jobs. One little slip will destroy a cylinder head. You are working (with air tools, nothing else will do) in very sensitive areas. If you look at last winter'* zilla rebuild, you see the finished results of my cylinder heads, with some progress pics. What you don't see is the very tense and stressed atmosphere as I went after each port.

Is it fun? HELL NO. Was I lucky not to **** up? Hell yes. I knew what I was doing, but doing it in the head ports is just inviting disaster. I should have put them on the mill.

Alright. Wonder what a machine shop would want to do that, and what benefit you'd see on an l36. I saw jr's3800 shaved his TB (I think). Is that home do-able?

I shaved his TB. And a half-dozen or so others here. Home doable if you have a vertical endmill.

Taking your heads to a shop would require you to tell them that shape and size to port to. No run-of-the-mill machine shop will know jack about 3800 flow. You need to be thinking about increasing flow through the valvetrain components before you need to port the heads to allow even more.

EDIT:

For an example, click 'LINKS above. Find the top-25 list. How many have ported heads?
