Default Pontiac Vibe as a performance car?

Anyone think there is a chance of the Pontiac Vibe becoming a performance vehicle? The GXP version is supposidly a higher performing vehicle, but doesn't seem to be all that much better. If you upgraded the pulleys, and various other mods, what kind of performance can be expected from such a car.

It'll be a 1.8 L VVT-i Toyota engine in the Vibe GXP. Specs:

1.8-liter DOHC
16-valve VVT-i
4-cylinder
180 hp @ 7.600 rpm
130 lb.-ft. @ 6,800 rpm

Got Rice, B!tc4?

I did drive this a couple of weeks before the Bonnie died, just for grins. It'* a great vehicle, if you like buzzy, underpowered 4 bangers. Ugh...

Sorry if this sounds bitchy, but anything that has Honda or Toyota on it right now irritates me to no end. They need to drop the 2.2 Ecotec into it and blow that. It does fit. 220 HP and 212FTlbs of torque is nothing to sneeze at....that'll impress me.

Im sure we will see fart cannons and body kits in the near future...

I thought that Yamaha made the engines for the Vibe? U.*. companies are finally picking up on the whole tuner fad. I agree it'* starting to wear a little thin.

As far as I know, they will be blowing the base engine, not the tweaked one. Therefore it should start with 130hp.

You can already get a GM blower kit that works. I know of two companies making turbo and blower kits for the engine.

YES GM GO ECO!!!!!!! N.O.T!!!!!! I repeat N.O.T!!!!! Moyota on the street.

Personally, I wouldn't drop in the Ecotec, and instead modify the existing Vibe, 130hp motor. Personally, coming from a guy who likes cars on both ends of the spectrum, the Toyota motor is better than Ecotec. No mod potential? Just take a look at the Celica aftermarket, and there'* your Vibe aftermarket... and I'm not referring to rice, I'm referring to real stuff

Wait a minute, doesn't the Vibe GT already come with the 180hp motor?

complinator: You drove the 180hp version? If you did, it probably explains why you felt the lack of power. That motor, known at Toyota as the 2ZZ-GE, makes its power allllll the way up high, like how DOHC (not SOHC) VTEC Hondas work. You gotta rev it to do stuff. The 130hp motor, on the other hand, the 1ZZ-FE, makes a lot more power down low, and is more street-friendly. Slap a blower or turbo onto that, and you've got a really friendly engine around town.

The engines are of a Toyota design, but the high-spec motor was tuned by Yamaha. Since the Vibe was always based on the Matrix, it always had a Toyota motor. It was a joint-venture on GM and Toyota'* part. However, the two cars are made in seperate plants - the Vibe in the US and the Matrix in Canada. I've heard that Matrixes are better built than the Vibe overall
