Is this legit?

Uhhhh....no, at least not to the tune of 5-10 HP.

Well, yes, it will work on warm days to "fake" the computer into thinking it is like 56 degrees outside. This will increase timing slightly. But it is only a resistor that you could buy at Radio Shack for $0.50.

Here is a good link to read up on:

when the computer thinks it'* getting really cool air, wouldn't it add more fuel, too? So, that would make for a very rich mixture in the engine, which hurts power (right :? ?), then advances timing as well, adding power. Are they saying this works despite the rich mixture (and how would this be bad for a knocking car, rich A/F helps resist detonation) by adding more power with the timing?

If you have detonation, the ECM will reduce timing to get rid of the knock. If you fake the ECM to try to increase the timing anyways, the detonation will continue. As for the air/fuel mixture, remember, you are "telling" the computer that it is getting 56 deg. air, you are not actually giving it the cooler, denser air. Yes, this will cause more fuel to be sent to the injectors, with little or no gain if your engine is already experiencing detonation. In a nutshell, if your car cannot handle the increase in timing, giving it extra fuel is a waste.

I checked out some of the other articles on that site that Jstpsntym
gave a link to. I found a few interesting ones that could be converted to do on a 3800, like the wire loom and stuff. I would suggest that some of you check it out!
