Default Instrument Panel Swap

In the on going effort to turn my 98 into the worlds only 1995 Touring Sedan, I have often wondered what I could do with the instrument panel. Currently, I have the standard 3 dial, with an analog odometer and no DIC. Looks something like this:

Size: 10.5 KB

The Touring Sedan always had a tach, so the only IP I could put into it would be the one from the 88 LSS (and VERY few 98'*). Looks like this:

Size: 24.1 KB

Among other things, you will notice it has a digital odometer and trip odometer, and also a digital gear indicator. Looks like this:

Size: 19.9 KB

Now, while I can live without the gear indicator, I am wondering what to do about the odometer. Will this IP read the mileage off the computer? Is there something close to this in the Bonneville world? Any thoughts?

On the bonne'* at least until 99 and I think into the 00'* the mileage you see on the cluster is part of the cluster and not the mileage that the pcm states.

Do any of them have a mechanical odometer?

Some are mech, some are digital. Nobody here has done the swap.

I guess someone needs to be first!
So, if I understand correctly, the odometer on the digital ones is a self contained unit. That makes it easy. As my FSM seems to have been delayed, does anyone have any clue if the connectors are the same? Actually, I don't even know if the speedo is mechanical or electronic.
I am guessing it will be a plug in. I know there is a position switch on the floor mounted shifter that tells the IP what gear it is in. I wonder if that goes through the PCM or not.
Did any Bonnevilles come without a tach?
Thanks

I have personally seen one Bonneville in the scrap yard some time ago that did not have a tach. It pretty much had what you have in your car now, along with craploads of idiot lights.

Ahh, found it.

I doubt the connectors are the same.
The PCM does know what gear you've selected.

I guess I have to get a couple of them and compare. No other way to know.
