Default Hypertech chip out

I have taken out my Hypertech thermomaster chip from my 92 SSE SC. Should I also change out my 160 tstat for a 180? I took the chip out after getting smoke because of mods during higher speed acceleration. No more smoke and more power in second and third.

Would there be any advantages to having a 180 vs a 160? Will a 160 cause emmisions difficulties without the chip? Will the computer be happier with higher temps?

get 180. The 160 will cause gas mileage problems at least and probably emissions problems.

The 160 will cause a SES Light to come on with the stock Chip due to the engine not getting up to the regular operationg temperature of 195! I run the 180 for this very reason.

The light hasn't come on yet. It usually hits 200 in the city when its warm. On the highway it stays about 165.

I've had a 160 for months and months now and never had a problem. I checked for error codes and got none, even after running at 150-160 for a while. But yeah no chip/ real mods stick with 180
