How 1.9 rocker work?

What your friend doesn't realise is the rocker is not longer, in fact most of them are modified stock rockers.
The end of the rocker that contacts the valve doesn't get changed.
The location of the pushrod is changed on the high ratio rockers to be closer to the fulcrum (bolt and bearing) thereby changing the ratio.
If you compare a stock rocker to a modified high ratio rocker you'll notice the pushrod hole is further from the fulcrum (pivot point) on the stocker and closer on the high ratio.
Does your friend think the hundreds of high ratio rockers already installed on these don't work and actually keep the valve open

Explain to him that all the rocker does is multiply the lift of the cam. So the stock rockers multiply it by 1.6 to get your stock valve lift. 1.9 rockers multiply it by 1.9 to give you more lift. But what happens when you multiply 0 by 1.9??? You get 0. So when the cam has no lift, the valves don't open. If your friend knows basic multiplication he should understand this.
