Default Headers Installed

Got the car back today from a week at the exhaust Dr.! I'm glad I had my exhaust guy do this, the install did not go well. But, holly crap, I can feel the difference with the SLP headers on board!

There is a slight leak at the point where the crossover pipe connects to the rear header/collector. When you put a load on it, you can hear the whistle. I'm going to put a few miles on the car, warm up and cool down cycles; then go back after a nice long hot run and see if the clamp can't be tightened and repositioned. If that doesn't fix it, then I think I'll have him pull the rear header, split the crossover pipe, weld it in the rear and then sleeve it near the front under the throttle body.

I'll post some pictures and sound this weekend.

Do you know what went badly?

I've helped/done put SLP'* on a few vehicles and by far they were the easiest of the various brands I've helped with.

Crank that clamp down..if it breaks call Intense. They sell them seperately.

Bill....

The first leak after install was the EGR tube at the headers EGR connection. He couldn't get it to seal and ended up pulling everythig apart.

The EGR output from the header had weld splatter on the inside and he celaned it up. When he installed the EGR tube from the manifold in, it went in crooked and cracked when he bolted the washer/plate assembly together. He had to get a new EGR tube. He then cleaned the splatter out and the way that the EGR header output tube was built, didn't allow the EGR tube to fit corrently, so he had to trim about 1/2 off the end of the EGR.

The crossover pipe required an additional section of pipe to be welded on. It ended up being 3/8" to short on the down ward side where it connects into the front header. That clamp/connection was leaking and he got the fixed.

I think we can eventuall get the rear to seal...just gonna take some fiddleing.

lol this weekend ima venture into fixing my own... i had to order a new manifold a couple weeks back and during the install i learned that my egr connector on the manifold was at the wrong angle and i have a slight leak from it where i couldnt get it to seal right... i also broke one of the flange bolts where they bolt together and i have to extract it but it was late and i had to work the next morning and i havent gotten around to tearing it all back apart yet but i can hear the leak getting a lil worse so ill have to do it this weekend... such a pain when the welders screw up... i feel it too

Kevin...that'* pretty odd. I've never heard of SLP'* having that. Maybe he tried to put the crossover in backwards?

I took the car down on Monday. The crossover was not installed backwards. The crossover was actually too short during the original install. He added a section to the cross over to get it to fit and where the leak is at the front header connection, not the lower as I had reported earlier, where he added the extra section. My installer believes that the pipe he swaged was a bit oversized and did not provide enough give for the pipe strap to suck it into the front header discharge. I'll be back in his shop Friday morning for the fit/fix. SLP says that because he altered the crossover, they wont do anything for me...even if I proved that the original crossover was not as long as it is supposed to be.

Ouch... that sux... but at least you know the problem, and if its only with the cross-over pipe, its the only variable unless the headers crack.

Makign a new crossover pipe is not that hard if you have the tools, benders, flair, etc.
