gutting the cat
i'm in tennessee wheres theres no emission laws other than if it came with it it should have it. i was thinking bout putting my bonny on my dads lift at work takeing the cat off knocking the crap out inside it. then take a peice fo pipe and weld to the inside of it then slap it back on. this way i would never have to buy another $100 cat. seeing that this sucker has never been off to my thinkin and with 145,000 miles i think it needs changed or my idea
now the bad side to this from what yall say is the loss of low end torq from the loss of backpressure. whats the opinions on gutting the cat?

I don't personally agree with removing a converter since a car that doesn't have one puts out as much emissions as about 100 cars that do. However, it is possible that with the high mileage that he has, the converter isn't doing much anyway and could even be partially melted inside if the car was ever running rich for a long period of time.
The government only requires them to maintain factory emissions for 50,000 miles last I knew so at 145,000, who knows what good the converter is doing. OTH, they aren't that expensive to replace, even with high flow models.
