Default To gut or not to gut

When I put the K & N drop in filter in my airbox I found a "spout" so to speak feeding air into the box. It is only about a inch and a half in diameter!? Is there a good way to gut or just take out the screws to top frame and sawzall all that area out. Have sawzall in hand and revving wondering how to go about it ....John

John..grab a couple pics of that airbox inside. I helped gut an 00+ ssei and there wasn't much to gut...however I did find a nice piece to remove and it was felt the whole 2 hour ride home...

And you can give the front of the box a couple holes to breathe better through sometimes.

I think the front of that box has a weatherstrip seal on it and is already wide open. Although I am talking 00+ SSEi box, not GXP.

Theres a bunch of small screws holding the top on and I quess I'll have to wait till I get them out to see just whats in the chamber before the one with filter, looks chunky though and should plenty of flow if i can gut the spout/snout out.
