Default FWI exposes TICKING noise under light throttle

At very light acceleration I can hear a slight, tick tick tick tick tick from both my 98 and the 01 now that it has the FWI on it.

I read a while back about similar experiences.

I'm trying to figure out what this ticking noise is. I dont like it.

Does anyones car not make this noise (I doubt you could hear the noise if you have messed with your exaust, the ticking its faint)

It is probably the valve train you are hearing now that your intake has opened up. A lot of people claim they hear ticking when adding headers as well. The thinner walls allow you to hear the valves closing better.

One way to possibly narrow down what it could be, would be to use a stethescope. I find one I have invaluable in these cases.

My ticking became much more pronounced after I installed the 1.9 rockers.

It is the valve noise as they close.

Dude, you should hear mine after the cam, OER'*, 105# springs, and SLP'*

I bet any person on the street would think my car is broken, until I step on it that is

Sounds like it'* normal to hear it though. I wouldn't be too worried.

I've got the same issues Hans. I'll listen to it this weekend and see if it is the same thing I am experiencing.

I'm usually too busy listening to the whine to hear any ticking. However with performance comes different sounds.

Overall a cam at low idle sounds like it'* a horribly running motor, in reality it'* getting ready to pounce.

Bob.. gotta love that header tick. Rob (GXP) pulled up and told me something was seriously wrong with my car at a meet.. I laughed and did something I can't discuss here.

Yeah, even though I know it'* supposed to sound like that, it'* still "uncomfortable."
I sent this link to McGrath since he was curious about the cam idle. You can hear the valvetrain noise over the exhaust. I think the exhaust sounds badass anyway Camera is about even with the rear and 2 feet to the side. Car was fully warmed up by the way.
