That'* the silicone reducer.

what exactly does it do?

It'* just what connects the intake to the throttle body. Silicone is ideal. It flexes when the engine torques, and can handle the underhood temperatures.

i just went out and looked at my car....... and its got a tube that turns into a box and tube going out the other side of the box to headlight i might beable to post a picture tommorrow hopefully

We know what it looks like. It'* an "accordian" style tube. Can you see how that red intake would be better than the one you have now?

whats the black box? and the red pipe is bigger and has a fillter mine doesnt unless the black box is my filter..... the box i was talking about........ there is a rectangular tube that connects to the same box the wavy tube off the motor does.

The box is your airbox, the filter is inside. Remember that flat K&N filter you posted? That is the filter that goes into that box.

The red pipe is smooth inside. Smoother is better. Your "accordian" tube is not smooth inside.

do you see the tube down from the red one? it bends twice and goes from the motor to the silver rectangle box next to the filter. right to left : black box, intake filter, tube and then the silver box.............. i have a small rectangular tube going from filter box to the ............. /\[/img]

The big black hose to the left? That would be the upper radiator/coolant hose. I don't see a silver box in that pic, but that big black rectangle on the bottom left is the radiator...
