Default Exhaust on 88 SSE

I eventually want to get this old girl to a track and see what she'* capable of. She is not there yet though. The exhaust is in great shape as far as me and my all knowing mech can tell. No rust at all and as far as I can tell no clogs. This is all stock. I've read alot on the forum and techinfo and here in brainstorming and all I can see that would be advantageous to me is to replace the cat and muff with magnaflow stuff and keep the same size(2.5")pipe. Am I missing anything?

i thought the piping was 2.25" not 2.5"

a performance muffler will be loud without a resonator. just a heads up.

It may get you a few more HP, but not much...and possibly a loss in torque off the line. People do it more for sound then anything. Put a flowmaster 80 or a magnaflow f-body on there and your car will sound like a tank. Keep in mind...it'* loud.

I'm not looking for sound actually. I like the sound I have now and if it isn't going to be a big gain in hp and torque then it isn't worth doing until the system I have now goes down. Spend the $ on trans, suspension, braking and engine mods?

Right...

Currently you are flowing good and IMO would not gain enough from replacing the parts to justify the cost.
