Thumbs up Engine swap info!!

hey guys i have a 64 bonniville wagon supposedly caught fire at one time from fuel? idk the cars been sitting bout 15 yrs or more,,,wondering shud i swap out the 389 or idk jus do a rebuild and wud an engine house have the parts fur it u thnk? if i did the swap does any engine mount up to the original tranz? i thnk these trans r like the 350 turbo so ?? any help is gud or if i shud jus keep the engine thats n it a do a complete rebuild? i have already ordered 2 chamber 40 series flowmasters fur it (pair) and im still looking fur the back right side glass all othrr glass is intact,,,thanks again fur any help...

I'm no expert on cars this old, but here'* my general-purpose advice.

After fifteen years, if you don't swap the engine, I would at least rebuild it completely. If it'* been sitting idle all that time, you've probably got aged gaskets and internal rust.

Generally, engines and transmissions are paired, but there are exceptions. I'm no expert on this, but if parts are scarce, you may have to improvise on the engine or transmission mounts.

Hopefully, it'll all work out. Post some pictures when you get a moment.

yea i thnk im going to see wut it needs to possbily fire up or i may jus yank it and put new gaskets and wud ever else if its not really expensive and i can get parts,,,if all else fails on the engine and thrrs now hope (im on'a budget) but i guess i will look into installing a 350/350 in it,,,but hey thanks fur the info helps out on decsions..lol...i gotta 64 olds 98 thats complete but tranny leaks supposedly,,,but im'a try to keep that ride complete it too has been sitting the same as the 64 bonniville..hehe DANG!!

Unless you're in a big-budget Hollywood movie, don't expect to immediately race the car out of the garage immediately without consequence. Take your time, use good tools, and keep a good supply of your beverage of choice nearby.

There are a good number of other classic Bonneville owners lurking around on this forum who can really help you out. Hopefully, they see this thread.

lol yea im way ahead of ya on the simple budget,,coo beaverage near by,,and taking my time,,thats how i have always done my projects,,,heehe,,,and yea i use the right toolz to no worries,,,yea im still new to this fourm also hope'n to find older pontiac owners with the same problems but dont matter who ever has helpfull info is gud with me including making new friends ahha,,,thanks fur the help agian dewd..
