I've also been thinking (adjust me as need be)....
If you have the stock air box (gutted of course) and the box draws from behind the headlight (yes rerouting would be better) wouldn't the stock box (if rapped in a heat relective tape) be just as good as the CAI & box. It'* drawing cool air (and actually with the size of the box you should have an air reserve - being it was ramed in quick enough)
and as long as you remove the turbulence by replace that silly according duct you should be good and the rplacment K&N filter. :?:

You need the stock airbox to be able to draw more air. The stock snorkel is too small. The cone style filters flow more laminar, and as a result, more volume and velocity. There'* some info in Techinfo on this subject.
