I've seen modern engines go 10k and after a Used Oil Analysis they were still good, but they were on the last legs of the filter.

I'm maybe 2k into mine right now. I only plan on changing in sept-oct (5k) depending on weather, so i can go to a lower viscosity oil for our COLD winters.

It'* your engine, and you can go much further then 3k. Working your way up may be the best idea.
