Best idea.
Warning the following may sound a little "domestic rice"
but what I think may look cool, is to have the puffer on say a 96 ssei sticking out of the hood. (only the puffer)
It could be done by raising the engine/transalxe and using longer axles, or a body drop.
I was thinking about this when I was wonding how a supercharger would look on a 74 eldo with the 501(stock) But I just found out that it was like a 4X4 system without a rear drive axle. not like the horazontal engines we have.

Instead of that, how about a real hood scoop with a connection to the intake ? Maybe the scoop could be located to one side, and maybe put a dummy version on the right side to match.
If you did it correctly you could hide a ram air intake on the cowl and have a duel purpose system. I bet you could get a local shop to make it from steel for around 400.00 primed.

I could paint it myself even. I just finished painting my 87 (its GM matalic red) red. It was such a bitch to feather in because i didnt paint all of it, only most of it. Like the only reason i painted it was because the clear coat was pealing off of the back and roof, and the hood had some road rash. So i didnt paint the doors and front fenders. Its still curing now, and will be for a few days. A few weeks after i sell it i will post a picture (just so you'll dont find it and call me up or stalk me--lol)
