How much of an effect does gutting the airbox have? I really have no interest in getting louder, just better performance.

I've been reading posts about CAI'* and FWI'* and I'm thinking I'll probably go with a CAI eventually. The FWI seems a little risky to me - during the rainy season the roads are sometimes completely flooded and having it that low to the ground would worry me. So for right now should I gut my airbox and install a K&N? I don't mind if it'* louder as long as there'* better performance to go along with it, I just don't care about making my car louder just for the sake of being loud. It has a nice purr to it right now

I'll back up the statement of improved throttle response from gutting an airbox and adding a drop in K&N (although in my experience Fram Airhog works just as well)

I'll be waiting for my new filter from you then (Granted, I used a Fram Airhog for a while before switching to a K&N for the CAI)............... just replaced a burned out MAF sensor. But I figure, what'* the odds of it happening again?

And if it IS an urban legend than someone should tell the GM techs I've talked with.

K&N'* are good yes but if living in an extreme dusty environment i would not
use one,why?.. you can't have the best of both worlds to flow more air you must
have bigger pores in the filter element,bigger pores means bigger particles getting
past the filter.

i've done tests with my quad and OEM and K&N filters and a dab of grease inside
the intake,in real dusty conditions with the K&N i could see a coating of light dust
on the grease dab, OEM paper had none.

Trying not to be off topic, but do you have a "sock", err, precharger over your K&N in the quad?

yes..kinda beat up tho,the OEM stocker has foam.
