Yeah get a 180 t-stat. I have one. It may end up saving your plastic intake. You can get one at your local autoparts store. You will need to get a rubber seal that goes around the t-stat and the flat housing gasket. I had to wire my fans to run all the time cause my engine was still as 210 degrees. Now with the 180 and the fans running all the time its at 185.

You run your fans ALL the time? Wow, that sucks...mainly horsepower from the engine but ya know. Also you're going to end up buying a set of fans shortly because they're rated in hours, not years. I'd strongly suggest hooking up a switch to the fans through a relay

To be honest, I'd wait on the thermostat until March or April. How hot does your coolant temp get, Bridget?

I have them on low speed. Plus without them running like that my engine gets to 210-220 degrees. I dont like that. I want it at 180 to 190 and not a degree hotter. I may down the road see how I can set up a temp switch to them to turn them on at 175. If it wasn't for these plastic intakes and the fact the my last engine was hydrolocked due to the intake failure, I wouln't care how hot she gets. But until I can buy an aluminum intake I will make sure the engine is a cool 180-190 at all times, even if I have to keep buying fans.

Dan, I would suspect you have a much more serious problem. A clogged core in the rad, or blocked passages in the block somewhere. That fan thing is just a bandaid. Have you had your cooling system flushed/flow tested?

I was just about to ask that. Sounds like my problem exactly. I'm saving up for a new rad....

I run 190-195 consistantly, i never changed my stat, and i'm not gonna. Never seen it over 200 once, even in stop and go traffic @ over 90 degrees.

The series I intake should not fail unless under HIGH heat etc. They don't fail regularly like the series II do.
