Nice write up..looks like a really straight forward install job...I would defintaly enclose that compleatly..then run 3 or so 2" ducts into the new air box fed from outside the car..makes the difference!

Is $117.00 about what people pay for a intake close to this?

well the Filter is about $40, and the RX4750 is $40-50, add shipping for the filter and the coulper.....the final price is really dependent on the filter....i got a 9" K&N for 30 at pepboys

Yah I know... But really $117 for a intake like that? I thought the reason people did the rice pipe was b/c it was cheep. Now I'm really confused why anyone would do one of these?! I spent less then that on my intake (a ture CAI) and it looks/functions 10x better.

I put this intake on because I wanted more power out of my SE, and I wanted something that I knew would work, that was easy to do myself. To that end, I got more power out of my SE, it worked, and it was easy to do myself. As for mods that I could do myself in two hours, I don't think there is anything easier or more effective that I could do in two hours, for less than $117, so to that end, it was also "cheap" as in "inexpensive". If there is a less expensive mod I can perform in under two hours that will give me a better increase in power, I definitely want to know about it!

As for choosing this intake pipe with this filter and silicone reducer coupler, I chose them precisely because a good number of other members here had already used these exact parts and found that they worked, and were easy to install. I didn't want to risk experimenting with any mods that might not work or might damage my car. Three days a week my car totes my 9 month old to daycare, and it totes me to and from work 5 days a week. I needed a mod with readily available parts, and I got the pipe at Autozone, and the coupler and filter were shipped to my door. The only tools I needed were a hacksaw, file, screwdriver, wire cutters, wire crimper, and socket wrench.

I would certainly like to know more about your intake though, if you have a link to a thread!

bugsi, so i noticed that before your new intake, you were running a stock airbox with a drop in K&N filter.... if you no longer have a need for the filter and would be interested in selling it, please let me know, i am most interested.

The reason I thought people did the rice pipe was because it was cheep and simple. Now that I have actually seen how much it actually costs why don't you guys do a FWI?
Buy some Intense or ZZP tubing, a coupler, and a filter. It would be cheeper then the rice pipe, work better, look better, and would be almost as simple as the rice pipe.
