Default 96 PCM vs. 97+

I was just wondering: in what ways are the electronics (Specifically the PCM) in a 96 different from later models. It is all OBD-II and shouldn't be that diferent, right? Someone help me here!!!

The 96 has the 4T60E transmission code while the 97+ had the 4T65E codes in it, so they cannot be switched from one to another.

Correction.... it depends which trim levels you're talking about. The 1997 Bonnies with the L36 still had the 4T60-E. I have one.

actually the only reason that the Bonne dosnet have a PCM is because the GP didnt support the 3800 untill 97....straight from Intense Racing

Let'* clear this up.
The 96 Bonneville does have a PCM, however to our knowledge there are no reprogrammed pcm'* available for 96 because it was an odd year for the SSEi. Meaning Series II motor and 4T60E transmission.

The 97 PCM for an L36 can not be used the engine control programming would be completely wrong in every fashion. Including boost control

I'm going to throw a 1997 SSEi PCM into my 1996 SE. I am putting in an L67 with a 4t65e-HD tranny. Hopefully the wiring is the same, I'll let you know how it goes in about 2 weeks.
