When you fix all the mechanical causes and improve flow by porting and changing cams or rockers, and still have KR, you back off the pulley. The loss of timing hurts performance more than you may believe. You're actually gaining more power by backing off the boost and allowing the PCM to advance the timing.

KR is the devil. Timing is the angel of mercy.
