Default 00+ Alternator on a 97 (For Electric WP)

I've done the research at Advance on their alternator test station as to which wires go where and there'* only two required wires on each alternator in addition to the power output.

Got an 00+ alternator from the yard and also found the 98 GP'* run the same style (visually) as the 00+'* bonnies.

It appears that it'* an easy enough swap with the right accessory bracket/tensioner and slightly modified coolant outlets (the 97 are elbows and the 00'* are straight).

Anyone know any reasons why it'* not possible to change over with regards to the two wires that go to each of these alternators?

I see no reason they should not fit. There would be no amperage advantage though as they are both rated at 105 amps. The best upgrade would be a direct swap out of a :

B: EIGHTY EIGHT 96 140 amp
B: LESABRE 96
B: LUMINA CAR 98-99 6-231 (3.8L), 140 amp
B: MONTE CARLO 98-99 6-231 (3.8L), 140 amp
B: MONTE CARLO 99 3.8L, 140 amp
B: NINETY EIGHT 96 140 amp
B: PARK AVENUE 96

All are 140 amp and they are a direct bolt in.

Good luck!

I'm not so convinced it will work...

I know this thread is full of false information by me, but in the end, the 98 tensioner bracket did not work in my car.. I assume it would not work in the reverse?

Ahhh I agree and remembered your problems with the bolts that hold the water tubes to the bracket. I'm planning on swapping to the 00+ bracket, this way the bolts won't be an issue. Also..I'll be moving the ps pump out to the same place the 00'* are. In essence...turning my accessories into all 00+ with the belt to boot. That way I should be able to guarantee success from a fitment strategy.

My only real concern is the wiring to the alternator being the same. (Even have the new connector)

What'* the reason you wouldn't want to be able to run a 96-99 alternator? Do you have a spare or two? Are they rated the same?

Please revisit the post Andrew linked us to. It'* an interference issue with the 96-99 accessory bracket. I wouldn't change if it was not required. Currently I'm running on a lifetime warranteed alt.

My hopes with this post was to find out if anyone knew of a reason why I couldn't swap from the electrical aspect of the two wires that plug into the alt. Anyone have any experience with that part of the swap?

This results in a different shape connector to the alty..however the 98 GP and 97 Bonne only use 2 wires. After research of the connectors etc on the Advance test bench..the 00 and 97 Bonne were found to be basically identical in wiring and operation.

I'm merely triple checking that this should work without any surprises.

The nice thing here is this will allow me to put on the PS bracket from an 00+ and run the electric water pump.

It'* all about the water pumper
