Building a new hot rod with a chrome moly tube frame. Bought a low milage 3500 V6. What do I need to change to RWD configuration? I don't want to spent $3k for a tremec. Is there a factory turbo application for this motor? Who would be best for aftermarket computer?

you need to keep your questions to one thread though.

it would be difficult, and costly i think. to keep the efficiency and benefits of the engine you would need to use the whole thing, pcm, wiring fuel system, etc.... the manifold is pointing the wrong way. all this adds cost to conversion over an engine that is already designed to be rwd. no factory turbos but you would have to buy hptuners to make the engine run without emissions and security stuff so you could put a aftermarket setup on and tune it with hpt. so really depends how much trouble and money is it worth to you to use it.

I bought the engine by accident (funny huh?) on e-bay for $300.00! I really didn't mean to bid but I figured an engine with 8k on it would sell for more. I had a 38 ford sedan with a 350 and all the stuff(solid roller/msd/750 dbl pumper etc) and drag raced it for a few years. 12.10 - 12.30 usually, but it got 6 mpg on the street with 4:10 gears. Sold it and want to build a very light roadster. If changing to RWD would be problem I could just put the engine in the back with orig trans..

I want to build an all purpose car (not possible to do any one good thing well I know) for cruising/ auto cross / drag race. Light is the key not so much power.

running the engine in the back would be easier, but you still have to buy all the electronics to make it run and fab everything. if it was me i would get a ls1/t56 pullout, comes with all the electronics and cna be had 3 to 4k. could easily get 20 to 30mpg and have a hundred more horse power. in a light car it will run those times too with no turbo

Probably a good idea. I do want to fab every thing though. Maybe a morrison supercar chassis would do the trick. I probably should sell the engine if I can...
LS1 I know but T56 is what? I ran a TH 400 in the street rod.

the ls1/t56 would be the engine and 6 spd man. trans together from a late 90'* early 2000'* camaro or firebird. the engines have well over 300hp and with that trans (has two over drive gears) you can run 3.73 or 4.10 gears and still get high 20'* for mileage. and get good times at the track with the first 3 to 4 gears. you just need to get all the wiring and stuff from the car and get the pcm modified to not have the security and all, and you would have to have the fuel pump from that car its high pressure. if you can find a wrecked f-body with those parts you might be able to save money and get some back selling the parts you dont need

another possibly cheaper option would be to find a 5.3 or 6.0 wrecked truck and do the same. the trans would have to be a 2wd auto, you dont want the manual in a hot rod. but i would guess the same mileage but not as fast as a ls1 or as light

Thanks for the reply. I looked up T56 trans after I sent that last msg. It'* a tremec for GM. Did not know that. You have convinced me and am putting the V6 on craig * list for sale. Looked on e-bay and buy now prices are in the $5k to $6k range. I'll look locally at boneyards to see whats up. Appreciate the feedback.

see if you can pick one up at an auction, i dont know where you are but if you can find one local it would save you some cash.

i just typed in wrecked camaro or wrecked firebird or wrecked transam into google and it brought up a bunch of current auctions. alot less than ebay or something, i dont trust anybody on ebay too many scammers out there
