Unhappy stoplight/brake light switch not working

had to change my stoplight/brake light switch on m,y 2001 oldsmobile aurora but the issue I'm having is that its melting almost every switch I put in there overnight. I've checked my fuse box in the back and the stop lamp fuse isnt popped. I recently just got it back from the shop and they took out a brake light buld on each side to limit the power consumption which worked for a while, but now i don't have brake lights when I press on the brake! is this the result of bad/old wiring or something else

Note: Edited by CathedralCub, changed text from color D7DADC to Automatic as D7DADC was nearly invisible unless highlighted.

I changed the text from color D7DADC to Automatic as D7DADC was nearly invisible unless highlighted. D7DADC was a very light gray or silver.

Need to figure out what is causing this problem. A shop that would "solve" this by removing brake light bulbs is a shop that I suggest that you and everyone else shouldn't go to.

From your description, it appears that it melts new switches overnight, so I assume this is while you are not driving the car. If this is correct, the next step is to figure out what is drawing that much current while the vehicle is sitting parked. You can do this by disconnecting things and seeing if the current draw goes away, or you can start tracing wires.

Either way, stay away from that shop.

Start there. Remove one side at a time and see which one is the problem and trace it from there.
