Looking at the Year make model spreads, my guess is that is that part 1227886 services the RPO LG3 SFI V6 , where as part 1228253 services the LN3 3800 V6. Part 1228253 also has an extra plug on it and a slot for a PROM chip or card on the top of it.

In short, I wouldn't even try it.

And if you need help identifying, the LG3 usually has the valve cover bolts through the center of the valve covers, and the ignition system is right next to the firewall. The LN3 has the 3800 badged on the top of the UIM or cover, the valve cover bolts are around the border of the covers, and the ignition system is on a bracket positioned close to the battery.
