Hard shift from 1st to 2nd

Hey, so I have a 1990 Cutlass Ciera v6 with 82,000 miles and it shifts hard from 1st to 2nd going uphill and usually stops doing so once the engine has warmed up. What could be the issue and would a transmission flush help?

That makes me think it is a hard seal from age, that gets more pliable as the temp rises.....

An additive like Seafoam or Lucas Transmission Fix might help
