At damn near 400000 miles, the original water pump on my parents 92 Olds 88 has finally died.

Dang, How'd that slip by quality control? You'd figure they'd at least make it last until the car is broken in....

Send the Accountants at GM a note and tell them to Replace the Bearings in the Water Pumps with those from the Alternators!

Nope, but the replacement is. Those have a bad track record?

Replaced the factory original at 140k, at 180k I had to do it again (lifetime part) bearings failed so bad the impeller dug into the cover slightly. Autozone claimed this brand was better and I should get 100k from it

What has been replaced? A couple alternators, a MAF, a tranny, a few batteries, ball joints, ignition cylinder, brake master cylinder, fuel pump... that might be all the major stuff.
