My suggestion is gonna be a wire coat haner.. (I know "NO WIRE HANGERS!!!")
Straighten it out, and carefully feed it between the lid and the bottom of the armrest. Then carefully pull it forward holding both ends. Should pull the latch forward and release the lid for ya. If not, and you're careful, at least you won't break anything.
